Program Description:
After EMS runs, responses to rescues, will be the next most frequent responses for many fire departments. It is our goal at the University of Illinois to make sure we offer the most current and up-to-date classes in vehicle technology, tool usage, in conjunction with using the Incident Command system. Vehicle technology is changing on a yearly basis, and in turn our way of performing rescues has to change. Some of the rescue procedures of a few years back will not be effective on todays cars. Through this training, when rescue is needed, rescuers will be better able to perform their job in a safe, yet timely manner, extricating victims at rescue scenes.
The vehicle/machinery rescue classes are offered here on campus but can also be taken to your area and taught. We offer courses that meet OSFM certification. In addition, through the Cornerstone Program, free classes are offered at your department in large truck, bus, vehicle stabilization, basic auto, new car construction and hybrid vehicles. These classes are adapted to the needs of the individual department in a 3 to 16 hour time frame.
